This is the way to start the new year, and work off a bit of the hangover (if you are 21+ and partake in that sort of thing).

We will have a great afternoon of ultimate.  Start time to be officially announced later, but plan on something like 2pm at Mason.

December 18th - Field Change

Due to the bad condition of Jefferson Elementary's field, folks have proposed we change it up.

Here is the current plan:

There are 3 sites that are all within 1/2 mile or so.  So, first choice will be at Mason Middle school (N. 28th and Proctor).  It is turf, and likely scheduled with rugrats playing soccer.  So, if that is not available, head to Wilson (N. 11th and Orchard).  There are lots of fields there for football and soccer, and hopefully we can find a decent spot. 

Pickup is definitely "on" for the 18th.

December 18th and December 23rd

December 18th pickup should be a "go".  Hope you all decide to forget about being a little wet and show up and play.  2:30pm at Jefferson.

Below is a GREAT ultimate opportunity up in Kent on December 23rd, 3-5pm at Starfire.  Hopefully we can get a carload or two from Tacoma to go up and play.  Let me (Jerry) know if you are interested in carpooling.

We're going to have our first annual Christmas Ultimate game at Starfire Sports (Fort Dent) on December 23rd from 3-5pm. Starfire is extending an offer to us to combine Ultimate with a FOOD DRIVE. The FOOD DRIVE will support Tukwila Pantry (Food Bank). Food banks have been really low on food this year.


Starfire will rent the field for half price. So bring $5 to help pay for the cost of the field.

Please bring a bag or a bunch of bags, of non perishable food items and/or cash donations for the Tukwila Pantry (Food Bank). Money donations are even better since the food bank can buy what they need in bulk. $50 buys 500 meals. If you write a check, payable to Tukwila Pantry, the food bank will send you a receipt for tax purposes.

Tis the season for giving, so this donation really does help. What's a $10-$50 donation in the name of ultimate and helping the needy?

Saturday Dec. 11th

We had a great turnout last week on the 4th.  Makes me pleased to think we can continue to play in frigid windy weather.  Nice to see some new faces who will be able to join us for Saturday ultimate.

However, don't plan on any ultimate on the 11th in Tacoma.  That is the day of the Chick Flick for the ladies, and the next day, Sunday the 12th, is the men's hat tourney Dangle Wrangle up in Seattle, and it is doubtful that many of us will pull off two cold days of ultimate in a row.  You should sign up for one of these.  If you want to carpool, let me know.  Nothing beats a ride in the minivan.  Snacks included.  Maybe.

Fall Ultimate

Monday/Thursday night Fall League is happening.  Teams have been drafted, and play starts Monday.

Register now for Tacoma Indoor ultimate on Wednesday evenings at Truman Middle School.   http://www.discnw.org/.  There are not many spots left for guys before the wait list begins.

Saturday Pickup 2:30pm at Jefferson Elementary.  I'll post if I know of something that might greatly impact numbers.  For the foreseeable future, this is the only pickup available in Tacoma until Spring.

No more weekday pickup until Spring after this week.  We had great numbers for Goaltimate yesterday.

Tuesday pickup:  6pm at Jefferson Elementary.
Thursday:  same (but we are drafting for fall hat league that evening, so guaranteed great turnout).

PDC Experiment: FAILED --back to Jefferson Thursday ~6pm

The PDC field is under rehab, and we were nicely displaced by school officials.  Goaltimate:  okay.  Ultimate:  not okay.  Field is closed until spring.

So, back to Jefferson Thursday.  Show up ~6pm to warm up and throw, and be ready to play as soon as soccer clears out.

Holy crap Goaltimate is fun

You know... you really should show up for Goaltimate on Mondays. It is really blast and a great workout. Lots of touches on the disc. Great practice with give and go's. I think it really brings a new dimension to your ultimate game. We are getting a savage game going, but if we get 2-3 more folks out regularly we'll be set for awesomeness.

That being said...Tuesday (and Thursday) are pickup days @ Jefferson. 6pm.

Sea-Tac ultimate / Outlaw ultimate

The City of SeaTac has taken an interest in working with DiscNW to foster Ultimate as a city-sponsored sport. The plans for the summer are to have clinics, a couple of hat tourneys and a fall school league [tentative]. Last week they kicked off with a clinic but now want to spur participation through sponsored pickup the next three weekends. The details:

Where: Sunset Playfields are located in North SeaTac Park on 136th St. If you're familiar with the SeaTac Disc Golf Course, it's one block west of that and one block east of Des Moines Memorial Blvd. http://www.mapquest.com/maps?address=S+136th+St+at+16th+Ave+S&city=SeaTac&state=WA. We'll have two fields set up -- one for younger/newer players and one for more advanced/experienced.
When: Saturday May 8, 15, and 22. Fields are available at 9:30 AM, games run 10 am - noon
Who: you! And your friends and anyone who might be interested in learning more about ultimate -- or getting in on the upper game.
How: Bring a light and a dark top to help make teams, water, cleats, and good spirit.

Also, OUTLAW ULTIMATE (open) is having tryouts this Saturday just after this (12:30pm I think). Sounds like you can do a two-fer--warm up with SeaTac pickup, and then head on to tryouts. Search for OUTLAW ULTIMATE on Facebook for more details.

Our local mixed club team, the Rainmakers, are practicing at Jefferson Elementary at 5:30pm on Thursdays.

This Thursday we will run some conditioning drills, skill drills and activities, and practice some "O" and "D" strategies.

Time: 5:30pm-8:00pm

Others are welcome to join us for all of this. I may ask you to take on certain roles as we work on some strategies, and we may scrimmage in a non-"pick-up" way (i.e. run certain zones, or one team always runs O or something) for awhile, but we generally end with focused scrimmage.

Swagger Tryouts + Monday Pickup (in Seattle)

Our friends in Seattle are forming up a new mixed ultimate team with the goal of making Nationals. Below is some info on opportunity to play and tryout.

To start things off, though, we'll be holding a SWEET pickup tomorrow night!

The tryout dates and locations are as follows -

Saturday, May 8: 10am - 12pm @ Lower Woodland Playfield #2

We'll probably go with the tried and true small warm-up, split into teams, play Ultimate tryout schedule. We'd also like to ask for $3 per tryout to cover the cost of the fields.

Alright, here's the deal. With college sectionals happening in our backyard in Puyallup, I think pickup will be sparse.

Instead, why not come on out to Heritage Rec Center to watch, and hopefully play a little.

I plan to be around field 3 to watch UW vs UPS (unless the schedule changes) at that time. If we can get enough people out around that time, we can play perhaps on an open area (field 5?) around 1:30 or 2pm. At 3pm quarterfinals is suppsosed to start.

This weekend is college sectionals. This year they are very close by, at the Heritage Rec Center in Puyallup. There are some great teams playing this weekend, and it should be fun to watch. Check here for details:

As much as I hate to say it, I think pickup will be not happening this Saturday. The UPS men and women are gearing up for sectionals the next weekend, and won't be out, and many of us will be scrimmaging them that day, or are out of town.
